housekeeping and other changeroos [Mar. 16th, 2008|04:08 pm]

I'm leaving thethirdwoman.

I'm generally doing-over my online everything.

I don't have any good reason, except I feel the need to do it, so I'm going to do it.

Flickr: rosesonmyshoes
Twitter: rosesonmyshoes
and, of course, Eljay: rosesonmyshoes

However, there is one change to my blog posting: also be aware of thorninmyheel.

My public and occasional friends-only postings will happen in rosesonmyshoes.
My private, primarily female-only (Kris will inevitably be included) postings will happen in thorninmyheel.
You are welcome to comment here to be added to thorninmyheel; however, due to the fact that it will be my one source of brutal honesty and vulnerability, I will ultimately be deciding who I wish to be privy to that information.

Although I still will be actively using my Facebook account and uploading pictures there, my primary photo sharing sites will be Kodak (so Mom can order copies) and Flickr.  I'm slowly but surely uploading everything there.

And for those occasional times when I hop onto Adium: jessiefulks (that's been it for a while now).

My profuse apologies.  Perhaps I find some unconscious pride in the fact that I've changed account names more than anyone on my friends list, who knows?  Regardless, I'll be moving.  If you don't write in your journal anymore, I'll more than likely not transfer you.  Just comment here to certify that you'd like to move with me.

Someone from the local news is here now.

Whoops - as it turns out, she's bringing a copy of news from the Roosevelt Institution's meeting last week.

Thought it was super exciting - nevermind.

She just got out a camera and tripod.  This is exciting after all!

That's right: we subversive, heathen liberals are huddled in the Campus Life office, watching the votes roll in.  It's quite exciting.  HG, you'd be proud of your alma mater - we're finally becoming a presence!

In other news, mine was the 6th iBook to appear tonight.  Dems are definitely the smart ones.

More as votes come in.

I cannot wait - today is my first time ever to vote.

And I'm totally voting for Obama, of course.

You should vote for him, too.

Or at least vote.

Exercise your right - remember: if you don't vote, you don't get to complain when things go wrong; you had your chance to make a difference!

(and for my republican friends - go McCain!)

end-of-january review [Jan. 31st, 2008|03:21 pm]

[mood |chipperchipper]

I've been a slacker at posting weekly, I know.  In the meantime, here's a recap of how the semester's going...

  • School is great.  Mostly gen eds (Psychology with Dr. Howard, Western Civ with MrsDr. Fortner, Aerobics with Mrs. McGaha, Art Appreciation with Dr. Adams), plus my last Bible (Research for Vocational Ministry with Dr. Guy) and one of two remaining "Applied Sciences" classes for my 2nd area of emphasis (Human Nutrition with Dr. Fisher).
    • The gen eds are all right.  Psychology reminds me of 12th grade psychology - except I enjoyed it back then.  Western Civ with a Fortner?  What's not to love?  The woman's a genius, and I love her and the class.  Art is so-so; he tries so hard to make it interesting, so I'll give him credit for that.
    • Bible is a joke.  Since I was a "real" Bible major before, I've had everything we're going through already.  Greek, library and internet research, blah blah blah.  Plus, Nathan Guy was once my CBC crush, at age 9.  I hope he doesn't remember - I made a total fool of myself, sending flowers and notes and all that rot.  When he finally gave me a hug, I immediately spun around and told my girlfriends, "I'm never washing this shirt again!"  In the middle of the craft shack, no less.  Thank God we're both grown and married now.
    • Human Sexuality would be better if it weren't for all the male kinesiology majors who have to take it in the event that they teach high school health/p.e.  They giggle and smirk at everything, and I want to punch them for being so immature.
  • Work is awesome.  Was promoted to temporary Sales Leader during Thanksgiving, so I got a dollar raise and got to run my own segments.  Now the store manager loves me, and we get along, and I love my other managers, and we get along, and I'll be able to work my way up in the future.  Not sure if it's something I want as a career, but I love Bath and Body Works in a big way.  Plus, the 30% discount there and 20% at Vicki's Secret is excellent!
  • Married life is good.  Everyday, I realize just how immature I am, and how patient Chris is with me.  We still hvae our spats, but not so much over stupid, trivial things like the first year.  We're both maturing, as individuals and as partners.  It's great.
  • We bought a house in August, and it's beautiful.  We're still painting a couple of the rooms, and unpacking the neverending boxes, but it's been fun.  Except for this past Tuesday, when the 60mph winds knocked down one of our fences, which is making the live os our puppies miserable.  Speaking of the puppies...
  • Simon and River are getting fixed in exactly one week, poor things.  No knocked-up doggie mamas in my house!  I feel so bad for them - not just because they're having their sexuality ripped from them, but because Simon is definitely trying to act on his urges, and River is definitely /not/ in heat, and they are definitely cooped up together inside because of the fence being down and it being too cold to keep them in their outside pen all the time.  I hope it warms up by the weekend...
  • I'm finally using my .mac account!  As soon as I've got my homepage up and running, I'll link it here.
  • This Christmas, we'll be going to Florida to see Chris' dad and paternal grandparents.  Then on the 28th, my mom and dad are flying down to spend "Christmas" and their 25th anniversary (12/31) with us at Disneyworld!  I'm psyched, and already have all our park days, rides, and meals planned out - with some wiggle room, of course.  It'll be amazing!
  • This summer, Chris and I are going to California for our family vacation.  Going to see his great-aunt and attend Saddleback with her, hit up Disneyland and Anaheim, supposedly Knott's Berry Farm, the San Diego Zoo, and whatever else Chris drags me to.  Christmas at Disney is all up to me; California is all his.  See, we get along so well now!
And that's my current life in a nutshell.

And we are both walking at May graduation - May 10, 2008 at 10am in the Ganus Athletic Center.  If you're brave enough to brave the crowds, we'd love to get picture with you afterwards!

Small update and BPAL question [Nov. 13th, 2007|02:30 pm]
harriet lime
[mood |irritatedirritated]

In exactly three days, I will be in Florida for the three most stress-free days of my holiday break.  Praise the Lord.  I have the greatest in-laws in the world.

Yesterday, I came back to my car after class to discover the back driver's side door was not quite closed.  Apparently, the guy walking away from my car as I walked up had gone into my (unlocked) car, and in what little time he had, dumped out my purse and ganked my camera.

Here's why it was unlocked: I had parked, gotten out, locked it, and started to walk to class.  Then I remembered that my Brit Lit book was in the trunk from the weekend.  So I unlocked it all and got my book, apparently forgetting to re-lock it before I went to class at 2.  When I came back around 5, someone was near my car.  As it turns out, he'd been in it.  Thank goodness my wallet was with me, and all he got was the camera.  Most of the pictures are already on my work computer.  Oh, and he also got the $150 that was in my little between-the-front-seats compartment.  A-hole.

I wasn't terribly upset about it at first; after all, our house was broken into during Christmas when I was in middle school, so my experience is with a lot more stuff being gone.  Also, I've been wanting to upgrade my camera for a while now.  However, I got extremely upset (to the point of crying in Wal-Mart) when I realized that (1) I am going to be in Florida, at Disney, with my in-laws in three days, and (2) I am going to see my little cousins, whom I haven't seen in over 5 years, in a week, and I have no way to document any of this.  And the money I could have put toward a new camera was also ganked.  A-hole.  I hope something bad happens to him - like someone breaks into his car and takes my camera from him.

asqmh - what was that really orangey-smelling imp you had?  Tamamo-no-mae or something like that?  Is it retired, because I can't find it on the site.

We do own a Wii, so if you'd like to bring extra controls (especially the menfolk, who might be a bit bored during the sniffing time), feel free.  We have Sports and Mario Party; still working on stocking up our resevoir of games.

Now, off to buy food.  And toilet paper.  Important things there.

here we go - bpal and bonnie!  i am quite excited.

in order to prepare, i will now post my complete bpal wish list, according to what appeals to me from the site and what some of you have recommended in the past.  i will also note what appeals to me from the description, so i can remember and point out what i think i'd like about it.  if you've tried it and think i'd love or hate it, please share!

(reminder: i adore vanilla and very fruity scents.  i abhor musk, am not a fan of rose, and magnolia and lavender are mostly too strong for my personal taste.  oh, and i like some mint here and there.)

bold = willing to buy from anyone who's willing to sell this weekend :-)
